About Gamaret

Gamaret is a Swiss-bred red grape variety created in 1970 by crossing Gamay and Reichensteiner at the Changins research station in Vaud. It was specifically designed to thrive in Swiss conditions — early ripening, disease resistant, and deeply colored. Its wines show dark berry fruit, firm tannins, and a characteristic spicy note.

Primarily planted in Vaud, Geneva, and Valais, Gamaret is often blended with its sibling variety Garanoir (created from the same cross). Together they form the backbone of many modern Swiss red blends.
